120 plots, 20 factories: inside India’s fastest-growing medical device hub

A 350-acre industrial park coming up in Sector 28 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region is being pitched as a launchpad for India’s medical device manufacturing ambitions. YEIDA additional CEO Shailendra Bhatia told an investors’ meet at India Expo Mart on Thursday that the Authority has already allotted 120 industrial plots, and more than 20 companies have started construction of their manufacturing units.

Bhatia described the project as a ‘major manufacturing hub’ that will provide an end-to-end MedTech ecosystem for north India, a pitch aimed squarely at companies looking to set up domestic production rather than rely on imports.

For young manufacturing ventures, the appeal lies in shared infrastructure rather than having to build it alone. The park will offer common scientific and infrastructural services under one roof, including rapid prototyping facilities, artificial intelligence laboratories and a shared warehouse, which Bhatia said would cut production costs and speed up product development for companies setting up there.

The site sits 3km from the upcoming Noida International Airport, giving it a direct link to both domestic and global markets once operational. Academic and institutional backing is also part of the plan, with IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, Invest UP and the Export Promotion Council named as partners providing support to companies at the park.

Units at the park are eligible for a package of incentives, including a capital interest subsidy, stamp duty exemption, support for skill development, quality certification and marketing assistance, according to the additional CEO.

Early interest is concentrated in specific device categories, with investors from radiology and imaging, implants, in-vitro diagnostics, anaesthesia and respiratory devices, and cardiology and cancer care segments showing interest in setting up units at the park.
