Frustrated with rote learning, a Bhopal teacher built an AI-powered Sanskrit gaming lab
A Sanskrit teacher in Bhopal used generative AI to build a free gaming lab that turns NCERT textbook content into playful learning modules for students.
Frustrated that many of his students viewed Sanskrit as a subject where they simply needed to score a passing mark rather than enjoy learning it, Abhishek Tiwari, who teaches the language at Bhopal’s PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 school, decided to build something different: an AI-assisted gaming laboratory for the ancient language.
Tiwari used generative AI to mine NCERT textbooks for classes 6 to 10 and translate the objectives of NEP 2020 and the PM SHRI initiative into interactive content. The result is a free online portal hosting a suite of games designed to teach grammar, vocabulary and verses through familiar, playful formats.
The titles read like classroom favourites recast as games: Mandook-Sanskrit-Yatra, or Frog Jump, lets a frog hop forward on correct answers; Shabdanveshanam is a word-search puzzle; and Sanskrit-Maha-Quiz mimics the multiple-choice format of the quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati.’ Other modules include a memory-card game adapted to grammar topics, riddle-based tasks and crossword-style puzzles.
‘My objective is to make learning and understanding Sanskrit fun. The response, so far, has been very encouraging,’ Tiwari told TOI, adding that students are voluntarily spending far more time on the games than on conventional homework, often replaying exercises until they master concepts.
The lab was built entirely with free AI tools and required no special budget, making it easily replicable across Kendriya Vidyalayas. The school has recommended the initiative to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan headquarters and proposed it for national recognition.
