TCS Bets Big On AI: Kolkata Gets Its Own Gemini Hub

Tata Consultancy Services has opened a new Gemini Experience Centre (GEC) in Kolkata under its Consumer Business Group, giving the IT major another base to showcase AI-led innovations built jointly with Google Cloud and its Gemini models. The centre is designed specifically for consumer-facing businesses looking to test and adopt agentic AI tools.

The Kolkata launch is the third GEC that TCS has set up in the country, following the Retail Innovation Lab in Chennai and the BFSI Innovation Lab in Bengaluru. Each of these labs is built around a different industry vertical, letting clients in that sector work directly with TCS and Google Cloud engineers on live use cases rather than theoretical demos.

TCS has confirmed it plans to scale this model fast: 10 Gemini Experience Centres are due to open globally by the end of 2026, with 4 of those located in India. The company frames the push as central to its strategy of partnering closely with major cloud providers, or ‘hyperscalers,’ as AI adoption moves from pilot projects into full enterprise deployment.

Shivir Chordia, director of partnerships, India, at Google Cloud, said the collaboration is already translating into faster results for clients: ‘Together with TCS, we are seeing how differentiated industry solutions built with Gemini are helping customers realise business value faster.’ He added that the Kolkata centre ‘marks a crucial step in accelerating agentic AI adoption, empowering consumer businesses to co-create, test and scale next-generation innovations.’

Murali Ramanathan, CTO of TCS’s consumer business group, said the new facility gives clients a dedicated space to build and test AI-led offerings before rolling them out at scale, describing it as part of TCS’s broader push to help enterprises worldwide move ‘from pilots to enterprise-scale adoption.’
